William H. Lamar IV is pastor of Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. He was formerly managing director of leadership education at Duke Divinity School. Lamar has written for numerous publications including Christian Century and has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and on PBS's NewsHour. He has preached at the Festival of Homiletics and for many ecclesial and academic gatherings. Lamar holds degrees from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and Duke Divinity School. He is a PhD student in African-American American preaching and sacred rhetoric at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana.
